Police in Western Rural District of Waterloo has arrested a 35-year-old man who claimed to be a staff for UNICEF.

The young man has been identified as Daniel Sarra Sesay of Circular Road.

According to the police, his arrest came after the young man tried to swindle locals in 20 villages in the rural district under a food and relief programme for UNICEF.

Waterloo Police said the man collected the sum of NLe 10 from locals in the said villages.

Sesay was arrested with cash, filled-in forms.

The young man is currently in custody as police continue to investigate whether he was acting alone or with a group.
