Police Inspector Mohamed Munya Lahun was on Thursday 24th February 2022 sent to prison for allegedly defrauding one Salamatu Sylba Forte the sum of 241,570,000 Leones on the pretext that he will facilitate her nephew traveling to America knowing same to be false.

The accused made his first appearance in court before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road court No. 1 and was arraigned on two counts charges ranging from Conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and Obtaining money by false pretences all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the police on count one, it was alleged that the accused Mohamed Munya Lahun on diverse dates between 1st September 2021 and 30th November 2021 at Freetown with intent to defraud conspired together with other persons unknown to defraud Salamatu Sylba Forte the total sum of twenty-three thousand united states dollars ($23,000) equivalent to two hundred and forty-one million five hundred and seventy thousand Leones (Le241,570,000).

Whiles counts two added that on the same date in Freetown with intent to defraud obtained the total sum of $23,000 US dollar equivalent to Le241,570,000 from the complainant on the pretext that he will facilitates the movement of her from nephew to the United States of America knowing same to be false.

When the charges were read and explained to the accused no plea was taken and no legal representation was made on his behalf.

Apex Newspaper reports that, Police prosecutor Detective Superintendent of police Isatu Gbassay Fofanah informed the court that her witnesses are absent and therefore could not proceed with the matter. Bail was refused and the matter adjourned to 3rd March 2022.
