The riots at 55 in Waterloo, the outskirt of Sierra Leone’s capital is taking another turn, causing panic to residents of that vicinity. Civilians went on the rampage throwing stones at the police officers, wrecking the glass of their vehicles and leaving some injured, whiles the police officers fought back by firing tear gas at them.

The media one of the waterloo police division, inspector Mohamed kargbo confirmed that a police officer is seriously injured and is presently in the hospital.

John F. Kettor who was travelling passed that area, reported earlier on how this incident started.

He Said, According to an eyewitness, at least one person has died and the other seriously injured from a fatal accident along the Freetown highway, around 5 5 Waterloo. Both victims are school going children hit by a private vehicle.

Angry youths barricaded; burning tyres middle of the road, preventing all motor vehicles from passing. But through the help of the police, situation is under control.

“However, as I embark on my journey, I’m left with the first time experience of what teargas is. And in as much as I’m sympathizing with the victims, I’m still perplexed by the actions of the youths. Why the main highway should be barricaded for an act done by a private vehicle?” he asked, bemused of what was happening.
