Women support groups in Bo have called for a female mayor to be at the held of affairs at the Bo City Council.
The women made this call during the two-day Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) National Women’s Council Delegate Consultative conference held in Bo City on 3rd Friday and 4th Saturday 4th February 2023.
During the conference which is part of the party’s preparation for the June 2023 general elections, various groups; featuring the Sierra Leone Association of Widows, women’s empowerment network, Persons with disabilities, hairdressers, and community stakeholders from every facet of life with banners, and placards rally their support for Catherine Agatha Sillah being the only female candidate among the eight contesting for the mayoral symbol.
The Secretary-Generalf the Bo District Sierra Leone Association for the Blind, Agnes Boi Moseray stated that their move to support Catherine Agatha Sillah can be traced from the passion and support she has rendered to generally the disabled in Bo City stating
“Over the years she has been paying series of surprise visits to us, spending time with us praying and laughing together a motherly figure that has given us hope that all is not lost, and has courage us since some of us have been abandoned by our parents and family members due to our conditions,” she disclosed.
She added that the output of Catherine Agatha Sillah over the years is a manifestation of her ability to change the narrative and therefore called on the stakeholders of the Sierra Leone People’s Party to award her the symbol.
“If someone like Catherine Agatha Sillah has disabled issues at the heart even when she is not yet a leader then it signifies that she is capable of delivering if given the opportunity, this is not about the party or the color but it is about what the individual is capable of doing and so, therefore, SLPP needs to award her the symbol as the fittest to be the next mayor,” Moseray concluded.
