Assistant Inspector of Police, Gabriel Tommy has been invited by the Independent Police Complaint Board to attend their office on the 4th January 2022 at 11:00 hours for an interview in connection with allegations of the death in police custody of 17-months old baby and other unlawful arrests and detentions.

According to the letter issued out by IPCB  he is to answer to the following specific allegations:

I. the Death in Police custody of a 17-month old baby, while locked up with her mother in a Police cell at the Panlap Police Division in Makeni City on Thursday 23rd December 2021 and

II. Police brutality, assault, wounding, looting, unlawful arrest and detention, forced exiled, and Professional misconduct on 14th October 2021 reported by one Mr. Foday Bah Mansaray of Mawulay Village, Gbendembu Chiefdom, Bombali District against him and other Police officers attached to the Panlap Police Station, Makeni City of which he is the Assistant Inspector General – Region.

Mr. Gabriel Tommy, Former Head of CID similarly unlawfully detained Mohamed Bundu beyond 21 days and failed to grant him bail to his family and/or his Lawyer as provided for by law.

The Independent Police Complaint Board investigated it and made recommendations to the DPP/IPG but no action was taken against him instead he was promoted to Assistant Inspector General –North of Sierra Leone.

This is the same head, now AIG North who under his watch, unlawfully detained 17 month old baby with his mother who died in a police cell in Makeni.
