Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, the former mayor of Freetown and a candidate vying for the mayoral position under the APC in the upcoming June 24th, 2023 election, has appealed to the Sierra Leone Police to release Arthur Pearce, the former National Grand Collation (NGC) Western Area Regional Chairman who recently switch alliance to the All People’s Congress (APC) party.

Aki-Sawyerr stated that it has been a week since Arthur Pearce was arrested and detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for an alleged repost from a fake WhatsApp account and is yet to be charged in court.

She also stated that prior to his arrest, Arthur Pearce publicly exposed a fake WhatsApp account set up in his name and he personally reported the matter at the Congo Cross Police Station.

She continued that Arthur Pearce’s house have been searched and nothing was taken by the police except an APC certificate and an APC media cap.

She said, “The law stipulates that the police must charge detained suspects within 72 hours or release them! That legal deadline passed on Tuesday! Arthur has not been charged so he should be released”.
