Freetown City Mayor, Yvone Aki-Sawyer has advocated for more resources for financing climate action for all cities, including Freetown.

Mayor AKI-SAWYER recounted this as one of the many engagement she had in her participation in the COP28 in Dubai where she also served as Co/Chair for the C40 cities.

โ€œMy first day at COP28 in Dubai started at the opening of the World Climate Action Summit. Following that, in my capacity as C40 Cities Co/Chair, I met with the Andrew Steer, CEO of Bezos Earthfund and his team along with the Mayors of Melbourne, Hobart and Mykolaiv. I then attended the first ever Local Climate Action Summit at COP28, a summit that spotlights the critical role of cities in addressing the climate crisis. It was a pleasure to run into Kenyan President H.E. William Ruto and Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Patricia Scotland and Sierra Leonean Youth activists between meetings! My day ended with a private dinner hosted by former New York Mayor and philanthropist Michael Bloomberg.

In my position as C40 Cities Co-Chair, I continue to advocate for more resources for financing climate action for all cities, including Freetown.
