Attorney General and Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay has met with the President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), Ms. Tuma Adama Jabbie Gento Kamara, ahead of the Association’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) scheduled for Thursday, 6th August 2026.
According to Mr. Sesay, the meeting focused on arrangements for a smooth transition to a caretaker body, which will be determined by members of the Bar Association during the upcoming EGM.
The Attorney General said the discussions were held in line with the SLBA’s notice issued on 1st August 2026, adding that both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining a strong, effective, and functional Bar Association.
“The Bar Association is a vital institution in upholding the rule of law and advancing access to justice,” Mr. Sesay stated, noting that the government remains committed to supporting the continued stability and effectiveness of the institution.
The engagement comes days after the SLBA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was expected to usher in new leadership for the Association, was suspended following disruptions that delayed the commencement of proceedings.
The AGM, scheduled for Friday, 31st July and Saturday, 1st August 2026, at the Freetown International Conference Centre in Aberdeen, was postponed after reports of access restrictions at the venue and allegations of interference in the electoral process.
