Sierra Leone’s Auditor General, Mr. Abdul Aziz, has been elected Vice Chairman of the Governing Board of the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E), marking a significant milestone in his regional professional leadership.

The election took place during the organisation’s Annual Governing Board Meeting currently underway in Monrovia, Liberia, from 18 to 22 May 2026. The gathering has convened Auditors General and senior representatives from 26 Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) across English-speaking African countries.

The meeting focuses on strengthening public sector auditing systems, improving accountability frameworks, and enhancing transparency and governance practices across member states.

AFROSAI-E serves as a key regional platform dedicated to building the capacity of Supreme Audit Institutions through the promotion of international auditing standards, institutional independence, peer learning, and stronger public financial management systems aimed at improving public service delivery.

During the sessions, Auditor General Abdul Aziz underscored the importance of collaboration among audit institutions in addressing evolving governance and accountability challenges across the continent.

He noted that such engagements provide a critical opportunity for peer exchange, institutional strengthening, and the advancement of effective oversight of public financial resources.

The conference also features technical discussions and strategic review sessions led by governance experts and practitioners, focusing on improving audit quality and strengthening public sector accountability in Africa.

In addition to his new role within AFROSAI-E, Mr. Aziz has recently been appointed to several international governance bodies, including the African Professionalisation Initiative Governing Board and the International Consortium on Governmental Financial Management, a global network of public financial management professionals.

These appointments, alongside his latest election, highlight growing international recognition of his leadership and contribution to public sector auditing and financial governance reforms.

His selection as Vice Chairman is widely seen as a vote of confidence in Sierra Leone’s role within regional accountability institutions and reflects increasing trust in his professional leadership within the AFROSAI-E community.
