President Bio Commissions Major Solar Energy Projects to Boost National Power Supply
Aminata Koroma President Julius Maada Bio has expressed strong enthusiasm following the commissioning of key solar energy projects aimed at boosting Sierra Leone’s power supply and advancing sustainability.
Speaking at the event, President Bio said he was thrilled to inaugurate an impressive 30-megawatt solar power plant, complemented by a 15-megawatt-hour Battery Energy Storage System. In addition, a 10-megawatt solar plant was also commissioned in Lungi, marking a significant step forward in expanding electricity access across the country.
The President highlighted that the Regional Emergency Solar Power Intervention (RESPITE) project clearly demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to building a sustainable and reliable energy future for generations to come.
He further emphasised that these developments form part of broader efforts to strengthen the nation’s energy infrastructure, reduce dependence on non-renewable sources, and improve power availability for both households and businesses.
President Bio also expressed deep appreciation to the World Bank for its invaluable support in transforming Sierra Leone’s energy sector. He noted that the partnership has played a crucial role in expanding energy access and accelerating progress toward national development goals.
The commissioning of these projects is expected to significantly enhance electricity supply, particularly in underserved areas, while contributing to environmental sustainability and economic growth.
