President Dr. Julius Maada Bio is set to deliver the State Opening of Parliament on Tuesday, 6th August 2024, at the Parliament Building on Tower Hill in Freetown.

This address marks the commencement of the Second Session of the Sixth Parliament of Sierra Leone.

According to Section 84, Subsection 3 of the 1991 Constitution, the President is required to present an address on the state of the nation at the start of each parliamentary session. The upcoming speech will outline the current administration’s status and future vision.

The State Opening of Parliament is a significant event in Sierra Leone, where the President delivers the address from the Speaker’s seat, dressed in the traditional Imperial State outfit, with the parliamentary mace carried as a symbol of authority. Following the President’s address, Members of Parliament will engage in debates to examine and discuss the proposed agenda and policies outlined in the speech.
