IGC Sierra Leone and Liberia Country Director, Herbert M’cleod, has passed away.
Herbert has been an advisor to the Government of Sierra Leone in its transition from post-conflict to normal development and at the forefront of efforts to ensure the application of human rights in the operations of the extractive industry.
His prior career spans 35 years of development work in fragile countries for the United Nations Development Program and more recently for the IGC.
He held UN positions in Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Cameroon, Ethiopia, and Sierra Leone. He worked as a UN adviser on mining agreements in Guinea and the Republic of the Congo, and was at the forefront of efforts to protect human rights and secure broad economic benefits from the operations of extractive industries.
Herbert will be remembered with great fondness for his intellectual and moral rigor, his enthusiasm for economic policy reform, and his kindness to his colleagues.
