The First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Fatima Bio, has donated 1,000 bags of cement as her initial support toward the construction of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) Southern Regional Secretariat in Bo City.
She donated while delivering her keynote address during the official turning of the sod ceremony marking the commencement of the project. Bio commended SLAJ for the initiative and emphasised the importance of strengthening media institutions in the country.
The First Lady also pledged her full support to work with both the SLAJ national and southern regional executives to ensure the successful completion of the project. She further announced plans for the launch of a fundraising program that will involve other stakeholders and private sector partners to mobilise additional resources.

When completed, according to the regional executive, the SLAJ Southern Regional Secretariat is expected to house modern office spaces, a guest house, a multipurpose hall, and other essential facilities to support the work of journalists in the region.
The project is seen as a significant step toward enhancing media development and providing a conducive working environment for journalists in southern Sierra Leone.
