The Government Of Sierra Leone (GOSL) has on Monday 5th June, 2023 in a public notice announced the disbursement of a sum amounting to Nle 45,192,624 to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) as a payment for exam fees for the 2023 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The notice reads as follows: “The Ministry of Finance (MoF), in collaboration with Ministries of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) and Technical and Higher Education (MTHE), wishes to inform the General Public that the Government has disbursed the sum of NLe45,192,624 to the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) as exams fees for the 2023 West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The public is further informed that this payment represents 50% of the total initial entries of 220,721 candidates.”
“Additionally, the Ministry has disbursed the sum of NLe12,050,446.55 to various Sierra Leone Missions abroad and the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education as stipends payments to 451 Sierra Leonean students pursuing various courses in universities worldwide.”
