The Government of Sierra Leone has officially launched an online platform for Police Clearance Certificate applications, marking a major step in the country’s ongoing public service digitalisation drive.
In a public notice issued on 30 July 2026, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) announced that all applications for Police Clearance Certificates will now be processed entirely through the WanGov digital platform. The new system allows citizens to apply, complete, and submit their applications online without visiting the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters.
According to the SLP, the initiative is part of the Government’s broader commitment to improving efficiency, accessibility, transparency, and convenience in public service delivery. Applicants can access the service from any location with internet connectivity by visiting the official WanGov portal at www.wan.gov.sl.
The police said the transition to a fully digital process is intended to reduce physical visits to government offices and speed up the handling of applications. The online portal is expected to provide a faster and more secure method for obtaining Police Clearance Certificates.
To ensure that individuals without internet access are not excluded, the Government has also designated support centres in Freetown where trained WanGov Partnership Associates will assist applicants with the online process. These centres include the Central Police Station, CID Headquarters, and the WanGov Service Booth at the General Post Office on Siaka Stevens Street.
The Sierra Leone Police reaffirmed its commitment to delivering citizen-centred services through the adoption of modern technology and encouraged the public to make use of the new online platform for a more efficient application experience.
