President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s Cabinet has on Thursday, 15th May, 2025 approved a poultry initiative aimed at enhancing child nutrition and supporting the local poultry industry in Sierra Leone.

The cabinet approved a plan to provide one locally produced egg daily to each child aged 3 to 6 years through the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) school feeding program.

As highlighted by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Henry Musa Kpaka, the program’s dual focus on improving the health of children and stimulating local egg production, which will create jobs and attract investment.

Henry Kpaka described the initiative as part of the broader Feed Salone agenda, which aims to achieve food sovereignty and reduce reliance on imported foods. “Together, we will feed and nourish Sierra Leone,” he affirmed, emphasizing the collaborative efforts needed to address the country’s agricultural challenges.
