Former Presidential Candidate, Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, has demanded that Leonoil Company Limited release five years of bank statements and profit records to substantiate their financial dealings.
Kamarainba’s challenge comes amid a heated dispute involving accusations of illicit financial activities and alleged ties to a convicted drug dealer, Jos Leijdekkers.
In a social media post on February 2, Kamarainba stated, “Wow! Paying journalists to attack me and manipulating the Sierra Leone Judiciary with legal threats should NOT be the answer. I am kindly asking Leonoil to provide five years of their bank statements and profits for the past years. Please tell Leonoil to provide the local Sierra Leone bank transactions and wire for almost the Le80 million used to purchase Sierra Rutile Limited. Kamarainba will withdraw his statement and apologize if they provide these verified bank statements and wire information.”
The controversy stems from Kamarainba’s earlier claims, made via an audio recording and Facebook post, alleging that Leonoil, Sierra Rutile Limited, and Kobi Walker, Chairman of Sierra Rutile Limited, were involved in money laundering activities linked to Jos Leijdekkers, also known as ‘Bello Jos.’
Kamarainba accused Leijdekkers, a wanted drug trafficker of investing substantial sums in the acquisition of Sierra Rutile Limited through Leonoil in September 2024. He further alleged that Leijdekkers was residing at a resort owned by Kobi Walker in Big Water, Freetown Peninsula.
However, the implicated parties have vehemently denied these allegations. Kobi Walker, through his office, dismissed Kamarainba’s claims as “blatant fabrications” designed to mislead the public and tarnish reputations. Walker has instructed his legal team to initiate defamation proceedings against Kamarainba in Sierra Leone and any other jurisdiction where he may reside. Walker vowed to pursue the matter until Kamarainba issues a full public retraction and faces financial consequences for the alleged defamation.
Leonoil and Sierra Rutile Limited have also issued statements refuting Kamarainba’s allegations. Leonoil described the claims as “false, baseless, and misleading,” emphasizing their commitment to integrity and transparency. The company warned that it would take legal action, including civil and criminal proceedings, against those spreading misinformation.
Sierra Rutile Limited (SRL) echoed these sentiments, clarifying that neither it nor its parent company, Sierra Rutile Holdings Limited (SRX), has any connection to Jos Leijdekkers. SRL stated that the acquisition of SRX by Leonoil in September 2024 was conducted in full compliance with Australian securities and anti-money laundering laws. The transaction was reportedly scrutinized by Australian regulatory authorities, including the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC).
Despite the strong denials and legal threats, Kamarainba remains defiant, challenging Leonoil to provide verifiable financial records to disprove his claims.
