The Minister of Employment, Labour, and Social Security has collaborated with National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), for the conduct of an inspection and familiarization visits to some companies and businesses operating in the provincial areas of Sierra Leone.

The team from the labour ministry was led by the minister, Mohamed Rahman Swaray who has been engaging workers and management across Freetown and recently, the provinces to fully understand their operations and how they are operating in the country.

They visited the Marampa Mines Limited and Sunbird Bioenergy as part of their provincial tours to these companies and businesses in the country.

The team also from the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), was led by the Director General, Fuaad Daboh, and other NASSIT officials also accompanied the Minister to ascertain the NASSIT compliance of the companies.

It was noted that the Marampa Mines Limited engages in the extraction and export of Iron Ore while Sunbird Bioenergy cultivates Sugarcane and produces Ethanol and the two companies currently employ about 10,000 people, the majority of whom are Sierra Leoneans.

The minister appreciated both managements for providing such a huge number of jobs, which is a boost to the President’s agenda to create 500,000 jobs for Sierra Leoneans within the current five years, as well as thanking them for their community development strives and expressed hope for more developmental projects in the future.

The Director General for NASSIT’s also expressed profound appreciation, maintaining that, the compliance level of both managements in contributing for their staff has been great, adding that, the contribution does not cover only local staff but expatriate staff as well “as long as they are being paid salaries here in Sierra Leone.”
