President Julius Maada Bio has departed Sierra Leone on Saturday for a subregional tour of some ECOWAS countries.

It was learnt that Bio’s travel is unconnected to his position as Chairperson of the African Peer Review Forum of Heads of State and Government.

The role requires him to systematically assess and review governance at Head of State peer level in order to promote political stability, accelerated sub-regional and continental economic integration, economic growth and sustainable development.

Presidential Spokesman, Yusuf Keketoma Sandi announced the departure in a tweet on Saturday morning. He wrote; “This morning, His Excellency @PresidentBio has departed Sierra Leone for a subregional tour of some ECOWAS countries. Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio is the Chairperson of the African Peer Review Forum of Heads of State and Government.”

Bio became Chairperson of the African Peer Review Mechanism of the African Union in February 2022. He is serving a term of two years from 2022 – till 2024.
