The Media Empowerment for Democracy, Inclusion, and Accountability (MEDIA) project was launched today at the European Union Delegation, aiming to promote press freedom and support journalists across the country.

The MEDIA project, with a budget of about one (£1) million euros, aims to encourage greater media independence, increase inclusion, and maintain accountability in the media sector.

The project is expected to play important role in improving the situation for journalists and news organizations, especially in an era of changing online platforms and public demands for openness.

BBC Media Action Sierra Leone will lead the project in collaboration with several key partners, including the World Association of News Publishers, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), IRN Sierra Leone, and the Media Reform Coordinating Group.

Partnership with international and local media groups is expected to provide critical guidance, support, and advocacy to help journalists overcome hurdles and improve media reporting quality.
