Sierra Leone’s Foreign Affairs Minister, David Francis, led a high-level delegation to the People’s Republic of China on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023, to discuss the Lungi Bridge construction as one of the thematic areas.

The delegation consisted of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Francis, the Minister of Finance, Sheku Fantamadi Bangura, and Ambassador Ernest M. Ndomahina.

During their visit, they had a productive bilateral discussion with the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Qin Gang, on key strategic areas to enhance growth and development in President Bio’s second term after the June 24th elections.

One of the main topics was the financing modes for the construction of the Lungi Bridge, as well as an increase in trade and investment between both countries and investment in the agricultural sector.

The minister emphasized that this engagement was part of President Bio’s government agenda to strengthen the long-standing bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation in areas of trade, investment, and support for global peace and security between Sierra Leone and China.

In his welcome address, the Chinese Ambassador committed to lead, mobilize, and coordinate the necessary support for the construction of the Lungi Bridge and many other facilities.
