President Julius Maada Bio discouraged the local population from doubting the outcome of the 24 June polls in an address to some civil society oranganisations at State House in Freetown.

Bio said it is only the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) that are mandated to conduct and announce election results in the country.

The President said some election observers put the country at risk and confusion after they released their reports.

Some of the reports were in contrast with the data the ECSL released initially for the Presidential election and later for other election results.

We have to guard against that, because you have no right to come and validate our election,” Bio said.

The President said he believed the ECSL followed the right procedure to arrive at the final election results.

He said that people should try to correct the misinformation while stressing that it is not the Commissioner of the ECSL that determines how results are collated but rather the constitution.

He criticised observers who tried to dictate the counting process.

Bio was announced winner of the 24 June presidential election with just over 56 percent of total valid votes casted.

His main contender, the All People’s Congress (APC) Samura Kamara disputed the result citing that they were unreflective of people’s choice.

Kamara, according to the ECSL, got just over 41 percent of total valid votes but claimed that he won the election.

There is currently a stalemate between the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party and the main opposition APC who plan to boycott governance.

Recently the vast majority of APC mayors, chairpersons and lawmakers signed a dossier not to participate in governance.

Critics say the move is unprecedented and unpatriotic but supporters of the party say that this is the only language the ruling party could understand.
