NASSIT Warns Public Over Unauthorized Deals on Its Properties
The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has warned members of the public against occupying, developing, selling or leasing its properties without written authorization from the Trust.
NASSIT said it had received reports of encroachment, unauthorized occupation and unauthorized dealings involving its properties across Sierra Leone.
The Trust said the properties belong to its beneficiaries and are held for their benefit, warning that it would take lawful action to recover properties and protect its assets.
According to NASSIT, no individual is permitted to occupy or build on its property, or sell or lease any of its land, without written authorization from the Trust.
The institution has also directed anyone currently involved in unauthorized activities on NASSIT properties to stop immediately.
NASSIT further warned members of the public against purchasing, leasing or accepting allocations of its land from individuals who are not authorised to conduct such transactions.
The Trust said people who engage in such dealings risk entering into transactions involving property that has not been lawfully allocated or transferred.
The warning was issued by NASSIT Director General Chernor M Jalloh, who called for public cooperation in protecting the Trust’s assets.
The notice comes as NASSIT reinforces its position that its properties are assets held for the benefit of contributors and beneficiaries of the national social security scheme.
The Trust operates regional offices in the Western, Southern, Eastern, Northern and North-West regions, according to the notice. NASSIT did not identify specific properties or locations affected by the reported encroachment in the notice.
