The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Referees Committee has concluded hearings on two key league matches, resulting in the suspension of one referee and the upholding of another match official’s decision.

Following official complaints from participating teams, the committee reviewed the Bo Rangers vs. East End Lions FC and Wusum Stars vs. Bai Bureh Warriors fixtures.

In the Bo Rangers vs. East End Lions FC match, East End Lions filed a complaint regarding a denied penalty call. After examining video footage and evidence, the committee determined that referee Mr. Rashid Mohamed Conteh made an incorrect decision by failing to award a penalty to East End Lions. This was deemed a “human error.” Consequently, Mr. Conteh has been suspended for one month, effective February 22, 2025.

Conversely, the committee upheld the decisions made by match officials in the Wusum Stars vs. Bai Bureh Warriors game. Bai Bureh Warriors had protested against Assistant Referee 2 (AR2) for disallowing a goal they believed was legitimate. The committee, after review, affirmed that AR2 and the center referee acted within the rules of the game.

The SLFA Referees Committee emphasized its commitment to fairness, transparency, and accountability in football officiating, stating that these regular reviews are essential for improving refereeing standards and maintaining the integrity of the game.
