Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey has on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, assured pupils who failed the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) that their results do not mark the end of their educational journey.
Sackey said the Ministry would work to remove the obstacles that prevented some candidates from progressing, while encouraging those who did not pass to return and sit the examination again next year.
His assurance came as the Ministry announced the results of the examination, which was taken by 160,161 pupils. More than 125,000 candidates successfully earned places in junior secondary school.
“To those who did not pass: this is not an ending,” Sackey said, assuring the affected pupils that the Ministry would be waiting for them when they return next year.
The Minister also congratulated all candidates who participated in the examination, describing their participation as part of their contribution to the development of Sierra Leone.
Sackey further singled out 11-year-old Davies Bethany of Tower Hill Kindergarten and Primary School, who emerged as the highest-scoring candidate with 351 marks.
He praised Bethany’s achievement as an example of the academic potential of young Sierra Leoneans and encouraged her to take pride in her accomplishment.
Sackey said Bethany’s performance had demonstrated that excellence was within reach for young people across the country, describing her achievement as an inspiration to other pupils.
The Minister congratulated all successful candidates and reminded them that they represent the future of Sierra Leone.
