The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has announced that it is directly deploying upgraded Electronic Cash Register (ECR) devices to eligible businesses across Sierra Leone as part of its ongoing nationwide installation programme.

In a public notice issued by its Public Affairs and Tax Education Department, the NRA said the deployment, which began on August 31, 2026, was continuing in line with its national deployment plan.

The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Finance, procured 10,000 upgraded ECR devices to strengthen the administration of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and improve tax compliance.

The NRA said taxpayers were previously required to apply for the devices. However, with an adequate supply available for the current phase, its officials are now visiting eligible business premises to install the registers directly.

According to the Authority, the upgraded devices are intended to improve transparency, ensure proper recording of taxable transactions and strengthen GST collection.

The NRA has also reminded taxpayers receiving the devices to comply with their obligations under the ECR Regulations 2021 and other applicable tax laws.

Businesses are required to record all applicable transactions accurately using the devices, file tax returns within statutory deadlines and pay assessed taxes on time. They must also cooperate with NRA officials during installation, deployment and routine compliance activities.

The notice was issued by order of the Commissioner General as the Authority continues implementing its nationwide ECR deployment plan.
