The leading aspirant for Western Area Rural District (WARD) Council Chairmanship under the ruling Sierra Leone People’s party, (SLPP), Eugene Ayo Cole’s car was reportedly set on fire on Wednesday night in Freetown.
The attack is said to have occurred around 3:00 am, at his residence in Angola Town.
The fire was swiftly put out by community youths, nonetheless, the engine was completely gutted.
According to reports, the attack is believed to be politically motivated. Reports blamed it on thugs who are said to be supporters of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party.
It is believed that the attack was aimed at causing distress to Cole and his family, and to note a warning for him to step down from the race.
Eugene Cole is believed to be very popular and a threat to his opponents.
