The Executive Director of Prison Watch Sierra Leone Mambu Carlton Feika has expressed concerns over the deteriorating health condition of opposition politician Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, Chairman and Leader of the Alliance Democratic Party who is still been detained at the Maximum Pademba Road Prisons

Mr. Feika expresses those concerns during the recent appearance of the opposition politician who appeared in court in a wheelchair as he was unable to stand in the dock.

He said denying the right to proper medication to the opposition politician is a gross human right violation and that there is every need for government to do all it can for a befitting medical treatment for the politician.

‘”This is a gross human right violation and we as human rights defenders are concerned. We know the politician is been held for crimes that are punishable by law but that does not take away his right to proper medication. He has the right prostate medication and such must, be granted to him. The last time we talk to him he was suffering from prostrate. As a country and people, we should be seen baring what is right and that government is obligated to provide the best of medication to people behind bars”, he said.

The ADP Chairman and Leader is been continually held because the judiciary is conspiring twenty-first people in government to keep him in custody. This is wrong and should not have a place in the twenty-first century, Mr. Feika noted.

The opposition politician has now spen14-year-old years in custody since he was arrested in July 2020 for an alleged sexual penetration of a 14-year-old girl in Kono, Eastern Sierra Leone.

Mr. Kamarainba has been, diagnosed with prostate and needs urgent medical attention outside the country. According to the judiciary, the opposition politician is yet to meet his bail condition, and the reason why he is still been p held in custody.

Five separate doctors have now examined him and all have diagnosed him with large prostrate. His rectum is blocked making it difficult, for him to urinate freely. This is according to medical records seen by Prime son Watch Sierra Leone.

Also, a neurologist specialist was asked to examine him and returned with the same result and yet the opposition politician is still been held in custody without proper medical attention.

“We at Prison Watch are concerned that his prostrate might turn into full-blown cancer if urgent medical attention is not given to this man”, Mr. Feika said.’
