Sierra Leone Champions Stronger Global Cooperation Against Corruption at UN Meeting in Vienna
Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to global anti-corruption efforts during a high-level United Nations meeting convened in Vienna, Austria, urging the international community to bolster joint mechanisms against transnational financial crimes.
Delivering Sierra Leone’s official statement, the Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Augustine Foday Ngobie, detailed the nation’s progressive anti-graft roadmap. He highlighted the implementation of five successive generations of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS), robust international partnerships, expanding cross-border investigations, and active collaboration with 36 domestic good governance institutions.
Ngobie underscored Sierra Leone’s proactive enforcement measures, citing the recent successful extradition and repatriation of an anti-corruption fugitive as proof of what target-driven international cooperation can achieve.
“Corruption transcends national borders and cannot be fought in isolation,” Ngobie emphasized during his address. “Tackling it effectively requires strong, resilient institutions, dynamic real-time information-sharing networks, and sustained international cooperation.”

The meeting brought together delegations from UN member states to evaluate collective mechanisms under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) framework.
Sierra Leone’s delegation reiterated that the country remains steadfast in deepening cross-border legal partnerships, enhancing technical assistance, and advancing national and international accountability frameworks to safeguard public resources.
