The President of Sierra Leone, Dr Julius Maada Bio has Commissioned the first ever Foreign Service Academy in the country, today the 5th January, 2022.

The Academy is also the first within the Mano River Region and the third in the ECOWAS Region. The multi-million dollar Foreign Service Academy stands on the land adjacent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Freetown.

The establishment of the diplomatic academy is part of the President’s Medium Term National Development Plan, which will allow the training and producing of higher numbers of career diplomats, creating special schemes to encourage young graduates to become career diplomats, and upskilling and reskilling existing staff to ensure higher productivity and efficiency.

According to President Bio, the training will enhance the quality of Sierra Leone’s representation and thus maximise the benefits of its foreign relations.

The construction of the diplomatic academy was funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
