The Government of Sierra Leone, under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio, is set to commemorate the annual World Public Service Day on 22nd and 23rd June, 2026, at the Miatta Civic Center in Freetown in recognition of the outstanding contributions of public servants across the country.
According to information from the Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs, the commemoration is being organized in collaboration with the Public Service Commission, the Human Resource Management Office, the Public Sector Reform Unit, as well as local and international development partners.
The event is intended to honour and celebrate both retired and active public servants whose dedication, professionalism, integrity, and commitment to national service have contributed significantly to governance, public administration, institutional transformation, and national development in Sierra Leone.

Government said the occasion will provide a platform to acknowledge the sacrifices and tireless efforts of public officers who continue to uphold the principles of accountability, transparency, efficiency, patriotism, and effective service delivery within the public sector.
The commemoration will also highlight Government’s continued commitment to strengthening public sector performance and promoting excellence within Sierra Leone’s civil and public service institutions.
As part of the celebration, deserving public servants drawn from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are expected to receive recognition for outstanding service, exemplary leadership, innovation, and long-standing contributions toward the growth and transformation of the country’s public service.

Authorities further stated that the event reflects Government’s broader commitment to public sector reform, human capital development, and institutional effectiveness, which are considered key pillars for achieving sustainable national development and improving service delivery to citizens.
The Government has encouraged members of the public, development partners, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to join in celebrating the dedication and achievements of Sierra Leonean public servants whose collective efforts continue to contribute to national progress.
World Public Service Day is globally observed to recognize the value and virtue of public service and to appreciate the role public servants play in national development and governance.
