The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has announced new measures to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay, as part of the government’s efforts to decongest the port and facilitate the efficient movement of people and goods.
In a public notice issued on 31 July 2026, the Authority said three key measures have been introduced with immediate effect.
First, any vehicle that is not roadworthy will not be allowed to enter the Quay. Such vehicles will also be barred from using public roads until they have been repaired and certified as roadworthy.
Second, vehicles without valid registration number plates will not be permitted entry into the port facility.
Third, the public has been encouraged to report any abandoned vehicles or traffic obstructions by calling the SLRSA toll-free number 844.
The Authority said the measures are aimed at keeping the port and surrounding roads safe, orderly, and free from unnecessary congestion.
SLRSA has called on the cooperation of all road users and stakeholders to help ensure the success of the initiative.
“Together, let us make our roads safer for everyone,” the notice read.
