The United Team Sierra Leone (U Team SL) has formally signed a sub-grant award agreement with the Agency for Integrated Development Sierra Leone (AID-SL) under the European Union co-funded INSPIRE Programme, following the successful evaluation of the organisation’s project proposal.

The proposal, titled “Inclusive Networks Supporting Peaceful Information and Responsible Engagement (INSPIRE),” will support U Team SL to implement activities aimed at strengthening youth leadership, promoting responsible information ecosystems, advancing gender equality and enhancing community-driven peacebuilding in Pujehun District.

The Sub-Grant Agreement signing and Grant Opening Workshop were held in Kenema on August 29, 2026, marking a significant milestone in U Team SL’s efforts to promote peacebuilding, civic engagement and responsible information sharing.

The sub-grant was awarded by AID-SL, an implementing partner of the INSPIRE Project co-funded by the European Union, with U Team SL serving as the Sub-Grantee responsible for implementing the project in Pujehun District.

Representing U Team SL at the event were Watta Koroma, Zainab Massaquoi and Sulaiman Fofanah, who joined other grantees, partners and stakeholders for the signing ceremony and workshop.

The project seeks to contribute to the long-term development of a peaceful, inclusive and resilient Pujehun District, where young people, women and communities actively participate in governance, development and conflict prevention.

According to U Team SL, the impact of the intervention is expected to go beyond the immediate activities and contribute to Sierra Leone’s broader national priorities of consolidating peace, reducing inequality and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Speaking after the signing ceremony, U Team SL Head of Delegation, Miss Watta Koroma, expressed appreciation to AID-SL and the European Union for the confidence and support extended to the organisation.

“This award will enable U Team SL to deepen our work with communities and ensure that information serves peace, not division,” Miss Koroma stated.

On behalf of U Team SL, she also thanked the organisation’s partners, volunteers and community members for their continued support, noting that their contributions made the achievement possible.

Miss Koroma further pledged U Team SL’s full commitment to the effective implementation of the project and the proper utilisation of the funds to achieve the intended objectives and meet partnership expectations.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of AID-SL, Mr Alfred Amadu Gbonda Esq., highlighted the importance of the grants as an investment in local organisations and community-led development.

He encouraged the grantees to ensure that the funds are utilised for their intended purposes while promoting greater local ownership, participation and accountability throughout the implementation process.

The Grant Opening Workshop also provided an opportunity for grantees to align on the programme’s objectives, reporting requirements and collaboration frameworks as implementation activities begin.

U Team SL said details of upcoming activities under the INSPIRE sub-grant in Pujehun District will be announced in due course.
