The largest United States Congressional delegation will descend on Sierra Leone today to strengthen the bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and United States of America.

The delegation will be led by Hon. Gregory Meeks, Chairman, Committee on Foreign Affairs in the U.S. House of Representatives .

His Excellency Rtd Brigadier Julius Maada Bio extended an invite to Hon. Gregory Meeks when he was in Washington DC in September 2021. Hon. Gregory Meeks, whose DNA has proven to have hailed from the Mende tribe in Sierra Leone responded to President Bio’s call by taking along with him top U.S. A. Congressional Representatives to Sierra Leone.

President Bio’s government has made positive impressions on the government of United States of America in the areas of good governance, rule of law and law reform, fight against corruption, gender parity, and the unprecedented strides in promoting free quality education in Sierra Leone.

While in Freetown, the Congressional Delegation will meet government officials, opposition party members, civil society organizations, and a visit to the slave yard in Bunce Island.
