Dr. Richard Konteh, the former flag bearer candidate of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), has declared that the final voters list handed to the party was fake.
The announcement was made yesterday, 8 June 2023, during the long-awaited handover of the disaggregated voter register on behalf of the APC.
Expressing his disappointment on Twitter, Dr. Konteh wrote, “After all the pump and pageantry surrounding the handing over of the Final List of Voters to Political Parties yesterday, it is sad to report that what they gave to me on behalf of the APC was fake. It has been withdrawn, and they hope to give us another copy. What a sad state.”

The voter register was presented to political parties participating in the upcoming multi-tier elections scheduled for 24th June 2023. The handover took place at the ECSL National Warehouse in Wellington, Freetown, with ECSL Commissioner West Zainab Umu Moseray representing the Electoral Commission.
The revelation of a fake voters list has cast a shadow of doubt over the integrity of the electoral process in Sierra Leone. The APC, being one of the major opposition parties, has raised concerns about the transparency and fairness of the upcoming elections.
As the situation unfolds, citizens and stakeholders eagerly await further information from the Electoral Commission regarding the alleged fake voters list and the steps being taken to rectify the issue.
Indeed, what a bad state of affairs! The fact is, there is not enough time left to have this issue resolved. Let the elections be postponed to ensure a reregistration of eligible voters, and new voters ID cards issued. This is my take on this thorny issue.
