The Human Right Commission of Sierra Leone has in a meeting at the Bintumani conference center, launched a Situation Room to receive concerns of human rights on the elections.

The meeting was held in the  presence of International Observers, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Political Party Regulation Commission (PPRC), Human Right Adviser, United Nation Women and the media.

The HRCSL will be working with relevant authorities to address these issues inorder for citizens to participate freely in the process.

The Chairperson of the Human Right commission of Sierra Leone, Madam Patricia, said, “The Commission design many strategies in the conduction of the coming 4th general elections. These strategies include but not limited to monitoring the pre, during and after election phases, receiving investigating and handling complaints, training of commissioners, staffs society organizations and also law enforcement officers which we did in collaboration with the Office of the National Security (ONS) setting up of this Election Situation Room and then compiling of an independent election report constituting the five pillar of the election strategy.

Giving brief explanation about the room, Patricia said, the Situation Room is an independent entity targeting and documenting human right abuses during the elections process.

The Room, she said is to serve as a hub to collect information from the commission’s 170 trained election monitors some of whom have already been deployed in the field to get first hand information on current happenings as well as verified information in different communities.

She informed that it will also be used as the center that the commission will be pilling its report for the elections.

“Our monitors will come in with the questionnaires which we will use to compile the report.” She disclosed.

The situation room according to Patricia, will be dissolved after the 30th when the elections would have ended.
