Chernor C. S. Kamara Confirms Resignation as APC Organising Secretary

Chernor C. S. Kamara confirmed that he has stepped aside as National Organising Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC), maintaining that the term of the party’s executive had already ended in February and the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) subsequently granted a six-month extension.

Kamara said he wants to make it clear that he stepped aside on August 18, following the expiration of the six months granted by the PPRC.

According to him, the PPRC had clearly stated that after the six months elapsed, the leadership of the APC Members of Parliament should take over the affairs of the party.

Against this background, Kamara said he does not see anything wrong with APC Parliamentary Leader Abdul Kargbo taking steps to lead the party towards its National Delegates Conference.

He also clarified that the Interim Management Committee (IMC) is an independent body responsible for conducting the party’s elections and is not the executive of the APC.

Kamara’s comments followed an appeal by Alie Suma Kamara for him to drop the matter currently before the court. In response, Kamara suggested that issues concerning the party should be resolved internally rather than seeking assistance from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

He questioned the decision to seek external political intervention in the APC’s internal matters, particularly given the party’s previous position regarding the courts.

Kamara cited the 2018 elections, noting that the APC had taken a matter to court, but the case was eventually dismissed in 2023. He questioned how the party could now rely on the same court after previously expressing a lack of confidence in it.

He argued that if the party does not trust the court, then internal mechanisms should be used to resolve its disputes.

Kamara’s position also reinforces the principles Dr Richard Konteh has been advocating throughout the week, particularly that the APC Constitution must be respected, upheld and applied without fear or favour.

Kamara has therefore made it clear that he is no longer the substantive National Organising Secretary, but rather the Outgoing National Organising Secretary, pending the National Delegates Conference.
