The Secretary General of Sierra Leone’s opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Lansana Dumbuya has returned home following police questioning in Freetown on Friday evening. 

Dumbuya was summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following the publication of a press release on January 11, 2024, where the APC expressed confidence in the innocence of former President Ernest Bai Koroma.

The press release, issued by Dumbuya, asserted the APC’s unwavering support for Koroma amidst treason charges related to an alleged failed coup on November 26, 2023. The document emphasized the party’s stance on the matter and its solidarity with the former president during this challenging time.

Taking to Twitter to inform this follower on the development, Dumbuya affirmed that He has now returned to his house. He also confirmed that the questioning was related to the press statement on Ernest Bai Koroma.

“I just returned home from the CID after police questioning on the 27th November 2023 and 11 January 2024 press statements. It’s all about the press statement issued in support of our former President Ernest Bai Koroma.” Dumbuya wrote.

It is not particularly clear at press time if there will be further questioning or charges on the issue.
