Jamie Yayah Barrie remarked “After decades of carrying his dreadlocks, my brother Moinina David Sengeh, has decided to let go that part of him and give us a new face. David’s dreadlocks were part of his identity, his personality and handsomeness. I don’t know what personal motivation he had to redefine himself through his hair. But I know one thing for sure; to let go such a treasure comes from a position of bravery, determination, humility and a sense of renewed hope. And I truly, truly admire him for that. Many of us will miss your dreadlocks and look forward to seeing the power in the new haircut,”

The shaving of his dreadlocks comes  after his recent address to the United Nations Security Council Meeting in America.

Dreadlocks, also known as dreads or locs, are rope-like strands of hair formed by matting which is done by not combing the hair and allowing the hair to mat naturally or by twisting hair and over time the twisted hair will form into matted locs.

The history of the name “dreadlocks” is unclear. Some authors trace the term to the Rastafarians, coining it as a reference to their wearing the hairstyle as a sign of their “dread” (or fear) of God
