Former All People’s Congress (APC) member Hon. Mohamed Bangura has officially announced his candidacy for the 2028 presidential elections in Sierra Leone under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

His declaration came during an exclusive interview with Liberty Online TV on Wednesday.

Bangura’s decision follows his recent suspension from the APC, prompting him to leave the party ahead of its upcoming National Delegate Conference. He revealed that his move to the PDP was driven by personal aspirations and a strategic plan to secure the presidency before facing potential expulsion from the APC.

A seasoned politician, Bangura has previously been affiliated with the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) and was the founder of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) before ultimately joining the APC. Now, he is embarking on a new political journey with the PDP, positioning himself as a strong contender in the 2028 race.

Expressing confidence in his campaign, Bangura assured his supporters that he is prepared to challenge candidates from both the APC and the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
