The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has deregistered the National Progressive Democrat (NPD), following alleged violations of provisions of the Political Parties Act 2022 (Act No. 25 of 2022).
The deregistration took effect on Monday, September 7, 2026, according to a public notice issued by the Commission.
The PPRC said the decision was taken in exercise of its constitutional and statutory mandate to regulate and oversee political parties in Sierra Leone. The Commission stated that the NPD had allegedly failed to comply with certain requirements contained in the Political Parties Act 2022.
According to the notice, the Commission had previously communicated with the NPD on several occasions, issuing letters that drew the party’s attention to the alleged violations and urged its leadership to take the necessary steps to comply with the law.
However, the PPRC said the issues raised remained unresolved, leading to the Commission’s decision to deregister the party.
With the deregistration now in effect, the NPD has been removed from Sierra Leone’s official register of recognised political parties.
The PPRC has consequently advised institutions and stakeholders that engage with political parties in the country not to involve or engage any member of the NPD in political party-related activities henceforth.
