Leone Stars Return Home After Back-to-Back AFCON Qualifying Defeats
Kanja Sesay Sierra Leone’s senior national football team, Leone Stars, has returned home following back-to-back defeats in their latest 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea.
Leone Stars faced Zimbabwe in Morocco before travelling to Cameroon for their Group E encounter against Equatorial Guinea. The two matches marked the latest stage of Sierra Leone’s qualification campaign.
With the September fixtures now concluded, attention shifts to November, when Leone Stars will face the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in a home-and-away double-header.
Sierra Leone is scheduled to play DR Congo on 9 and 17 November 2026, with both matches expected to play an important part in the team’s continued push for qualification to the 2027 AFCON tournament.
