After the draw on Tuesday, Sierra Leone now knows their opponents for the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 competition.
According to the official fixture of CAF after the draw, Sierra Leone is in Group E with Algeria the defending champions, Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea two teams will qualify to the next stage and possible one best loser from this Group.
Leone Stars of Sierra Leone will play their first match against Algeria on the 11th January 2022 at the Japoma Stadium. The last meeting between this team was the 1996 Nation cup and Algeria carry that day as they won Sierra Leone by two goals to nil.
Sierra Leone’s second match will be against Ivory Cost and this match will played on the 16th January 2022 at the Japoma stadium. These two team has meet seven times and Sierra Leone has manage to draw only one match and lost the remaining six, they last meet in 2015 and it ended in a goalless draw.
Finally, Leone stars of Sierra Leone will play their final Group Stage match against Equatorial Guinea on the 20th January at the Limbe Stadium. Sierra Leone has a good record against their final group stage opponent as they meet six time and Sierra Leone has won four matches draw one and lost one, they last met in 2013 and Sierra Leone won that match by three goals to two.
But so many things have change between these team players technical staffs etc. Sierra Leone last played Algeria 25 years back, Ivory Coast six year ago and Equatorial Guinea eight years ago.
