Sierra Leonean midfielder Ibrahim Turay, known as “IB Computer,” has shared photos of his stint with Icelandic top-flight club Stjarnan, underscoring a growing pipeline of Sierra Leonean talent into European football.
Turay, 26, joined Stjarnan ahead of the 2025/26 season from Bo Rangers FC, the reigning champions of Sierra Leone’s Premier League. He signed a two-year deal alongside compatriot Alpha Conteh, a winger who arrived from Neftchi Baku in Azerbaijan.
Stjarnan competes in the Besta deild karla, Iceland’s top-tier men’s league. The club is based in Garðabær, a town just south of Reykjavík.
The midfielder earned the nickname “IB Computer” for his tactical intelligence and precise distribution, according to Sierra Leonean media. He previously played for the Sierra Leone national team and scored in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Guinea-Bissau in March 2025.
In his first season with Stjarnan, Turay has made six league appearances, recording two yellow cards and no goals, according to FootyStats. He has also featured in the League Cup, where he registered one goal and one red card.
Both Turay and Conteh link up with former Sierra Leone captain Steven Caulker, who serves as a player-coach at Stjarnan. Club officials described the signings as part of a long-term strategy to add international depth and keep the team competitive domestically and in European competitions.
Turay expressed optimism about the move when he arrived. “Joining Stjarnan is a great opportunity for me to grow as a player and contribute to the team’s success,” he said. He added that he looked forward to learning from the coaching staff and giving his best on the field.
The presence of Turay and Conteh at Stjarnan reflects a broader trend of Sierra Leonean footballers securing moves to European leagues. Observers note that such transfers highlight the increasing visibility of talent from the West African nation.
