The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) issued a strict warning to the general public against tampering with Vehicle Chassis Numbers in the country.
The Management of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) said they have become aware of unlawful activities involving the distortion, defacing, or tampering of Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs).
Management is further aware that certain individuals are deliberately altering or removing authentic chassis numbers (VINs) and imprinting counterfeit numbers with the intent to deceive the Authority.
Importantly, the Authority wishes to inform the general public that falsifying vehicle chassis numbers or any related documentation constitutes a criminal offense under the Road Traffic Act No 41 of 2007, Part IV, section 44.
‘’The Authority frowns at such acts and stands ready to track down all defaulters.’’ the statement reads,
The public is strongly advised to avoid engaging in these illegal practices. Any individual or entity undertaking guilty of such offences will face prosecution under the law.
