First Lady of Sierra Leone Fatima Maada Bio has said that her involvement in politics has never been about holding titles or gaining recognition.

Instead, she described it as a personal mission she has remained committed to since the very beginning of her journey into public life and political engagement.

In a statement released after the recent SLPP National Delegates Conference she looked back on her political journey and explained that her focus has always been on two main goals, to support her husband’s presidency and to help the Sierra Leone People’s Party maintain leadership beyond the 2028 elections. These two commitments, she said, have guided every step she has taken.

“My journey in Sierra Leone’s politics has never been about titles or applause. It has always been about mission,” she said, emphasizing that her motivation comes from dedication rather than desire for status or recognition.

She explained that these commitments have pushed her through difficult situations over the years. Staying true to that mission she added has meant dealing with challenges both in the political arena and on a personal level, moments that tested her strength and resilience in many ways.

“To remain faithful to these missions, I have crossed rivers, climbed mountains, and braved jungles, both the political kind and the human kind,” the First Lady said, describing the wide range of obstacles she has faced while working tirelessly for her cause.

She also spoke about her role not just as a political figure, but as a woman, a partner, and a human being. She said that while she has developed a thick skin through experience, she still feels the pressures and emotions that come with public life, reminding everyone that behind the public role is a person with feelings.

“I am not an angel. I am human. I am a woman,” she wrote, adding that being First Lady does not remove her from the reality of emotion and challenge, acknowledging her vulnerabilities alongside her responsibilities.

Fatima Bio said her connection with President Julius Maada Bio goes beyond political office. According to her, their bond was formed long before any election and that personal relationship remains strong regardless of political discussions or events, a relationship built on trust and mutual respect.

She ended her message by saying that her focus remains unchanged. Whether she is needed in the public eye or behind the scenes, her loyalty to her husband, her party, and the country remains steady and unwavering, a commitment she plans to uphold through the years to come.
