Sierra Leone will participate in the Africa Climate Summit 2 in Addis Ababa on September 9, with Kandeh Yumkella, Chair of the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security (PI-CREF), representing the country.
Yumkella will speak from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on “Catalyzing Institutional Transitions to Clean Cooking in Africa,” highlighting ways to expand access to clean cooking methods that improve health, protect the environment, and empower communities across the continent.
The participation aligns with President Julius Maada Bio’s ongoing efforts to promote clean energy solutions and climate action in Africa. The clean cooking initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce harmful emissions and encourage sustainable development.
Other speakers at the session include Kenya’s Climate Envoy, Ambassador Ali Mohamed, and Dymphna van der Lens, CEO of the Clean Cooking Alliance.
Yumkella’s involvement underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to addressing climate change and advancing sustainable energy solutions that benefit both the environment and local communities.
