A Ministry of Agriculture employee in Kambia District has died after allegedly being strangled by a co-worker with whom he shared a government residence, police and officials confirmed.
The deceased, Brima “Omoray” Kargbo, served as a Crops Officer. He was allegedly killed by his colleague, Mohamed Alpha Bashiru Fofanah, who also works for the Ministry in the district.
According to witness accounts, the two men had a history of personal disputes. Residents reported that the fatal incident occurred on Thursday night following a heated argument, during which Fofanah allegedly strangled Kargbo.
Fofanah subsequently surrendered to the police, where he reportedly admitted to having “done something bad” but claimed the act was in self-defense. Before turning himself in, he allegedly informed their supervisor, the District Agricultural Officer (DAO), and requested arrangements be made to collect Kargbo’s body.
The case has drawn the attention of All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament, Hon. Jawah Sesay, who is both a family member and the constituency representative. He revealed that an autopsy report confirmed the deceased died from strangulation and physical assault.
“I am calling on the government and Sierra Leone Police to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves,” Hon. Sesay stated.
Confirming the incident, Kambia Police Media Officer Claudius Moses Gray said Fofanah is currently in custody as investigations continue.
“The incident occurred in the shared residence of the two men,” Gray explained, adding that Kargbo was found lying on the floor before being rushed to the hospital. The body has been transferred to Freetown for a post-mortem examination while the probe into the death continues.
