The Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) has issued a public notice warning of the dangers and illegality of vandalizing the 161kV transmission line, especially between Waterloo and Lunsar.

The Management of the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) further informs that they have received disturbing reports reaching its headquarters of the vandalization of the tower members on the 161kV transmission line through unauthorized/illegal activities within the transmission line facilities.

Furthermore, Electricity Generation and Transmission Company wishes to inform the general Public that such activities are not only unlawful but also extremely dangerous, because it has the potential to put thousands of human lives in danger, as any of the vandalized towers could be weakened and collapse, leaving highly energized conductors in contact with the ground.

“These illegal activities on the 161kV transmission line are most prevalent between the Waterloo and Lunsar axes.”

Additionally, EGTC is therefore calling on all stakeholders, including the security sector and patriotic citizens, to be on high alert and to apprehend or report any suspected illegal activity on the Bumbuna 161KV Transmission Line, to the nearest Police Station or contact the following numbers: +232 76 878492, +232 76 959117.

“Let us all put our hands together to protect our national transmission assets. This public notice serves as a warning to all those involved in such illegal practices.” Electricity Generation and Transmission Company.
