The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, marking a major milestone in the country’s agricultural development.

The partnership, signed at the Feed Salone Roundtable in New York, aims to leverage the Alliance’s global technical expertise to strengthen systems, empower farmers, and accelerate Sierra Leone’s move toward sustainable food security.

“This MOU is more than a document — it is a commitment to Sierra Leone’s agricultural renaissance,” Dr. Kpaka said.

“With the Alliance’s world-class expertise, we will unlock new opportunities for our farmers, strengthen our climate resilience, and drive the innovation needed to transform agriculture into a powerhouse for national development,” he affirmed.

The partnership will focus on key areas, including climate-resilient agriculture and agroforestry, livestock and forage development, nutrition, food systems, and market integration, as well as digital innovation and data-driven agricultural decision-making.

Kpaka affirmed that the partnership directly advances the core pillars of Feed Salone, the government’s flagship initiative aimed at transforming the agriculture sector and achieving food security.

The Feed Salone initiative, launched by President Julius Maada Bio, seeks to create job opportunities for women and youth, alleviate hunger and malnutrition, reduce dependence on food imports, build a climate-resilient food system, and boost export earnings from agriculture.

The partnership is expected to contribute to the development of a stronger, smarter, and more resilient agricultural sector, delivering benefits for farmers, communities, and the nation as a whole.
